Our members are selfish. There’s no other way around it, we can’t hide from the truth. Their selfish approach to their own health and fitness has led them here. They want what’s best for them, and won’t settle for anything less. They demand the best from us as trainers and gym owners. They constantly ask questions and seek new approaches, and in doing so force us to continue to grow and develop our methods. They’ve progressed so much from our group classes that they’re demanding more times and more options, so we’ve had to add to our menu of services to accommodate! So selfish. We have so many folks use our Crossover Symmetry bands to develop and strengthen their shoulders that our bands are snapping and we had to order a whole new set! So selfish. We have so many of them on personal programming now as a means to achieving their unique goals, we’ve had to restock our dry erase markers and mini white boards so they can track their personal workouts! So damn selfish. Finally, they’re so proud of the results that they’ve gotten working out here that they can’t help but brag to their friends about it, driving more people to our front door through their positive testimonials and referrals. In fact, DSC has only had our doors open in this new location for a little less than a year, and we’ve already broken the 100 member mark. This selfishness is close to getting out of hand. And we wouldn’t have it any other way. In fact, we’re going to go so far as to encourage it. DSC is proud and excited to announce that we will be expanding our gym space to handle our growing family. We’ve signed a new lease and will be adding another 1500 sqft of workout space to our existing floor plan. Construction will be starting soon, pictures and full plan to follow. Our BB club will have a separate area, our group classes will have more room to spread out, and we’ll have equipment set aside for personal training sessions. To say we’re excited about what the future holds would be a dramatic understatement. Thank you to all who have come along for the ride so far, we’re grateful to have each and every one of you join us and let us be a part of your own journey. And to anyone who’s wondering what the heck is going on over here, why our members are so happy, why we’re growing so fast, or just what the big deal is in general, you owe it to yourself to come check us out. Come observe a class, chat with a coach, or take part in a workout. Be selfish. Your future self will thank you.
How long have you been a DSC client? 3 Months What were your original goals when you signed up? Improve eating habits Are you satisfied with your progress on these goals? DSC helped me make small “tweaks” in my food intake and sleeping habits that resulted in significant and visible improvements in my physical being and fitness level. If you have met your goals, what would be new goals you would set? As a 42 year old “workaholic”, my goal is to be fit and healthy in order to maintain my current quality of life. I want to sustain and continuously improve the eating and sleeping habits I learned during my DSC program. I like that DSC promotes life changing “realistic” habits versus quick fixes. Because of DSC, I gave up protein shakes. Now, I get my protein and nutrients only from food and I feel 100% better. I am saving money and I have the peace of mind of knowing exactly what I am consuming. I was always pleased with all DSC recommendations, for I never found them intrusive. Would you recommend DSC to a friend/colleague? I have recommended DSC. The program I was in, was short, very targeted and at the end effective. If you tell DSC what your goals are and your expectations (in terms of interactions) they will tailor a program that is right for you. The cost and value of my program was exceptional. I signed up for a diet evaluation program. I did not want to completely alter my social lifestyle, but I wanted to start a continuous improvement process in my diet. DSC gave me awareness and accountability. Ultimately, fitness is a self commitment. Having the support and knowledge base from DSC made the start my journey a little easier.
I have been extremely satisfied in the 18 months since I began working with Adam. I came in with the intention to only get stronger. Not only have I made huge strength gains, but my aerobic base, and mental fortitude has also increased tremendously. I am a much more rounded athlete than I ever thought possible. We spent the better part of the past year building a solid foundation and now we are reaping the benefits. I walk into every workout with the intention of setting a PR, and more often than not I do. Thanks to Adam’s programming and guidance I am doing things I never thought possible.
DSC has helped me reach fitness levels that make me feel 30 years younger. Last year, after having worked with DSC for about a year I had to go to the physician to get a renewal for some arthritis medicine. The Doc told me I looked great and inquired what was I doing differently. The only substantive change was DSC. He remarked, ‘whatever you are doing, Do more of it.’ I was 59 and thought I needed to set some goals for my 60th birthday-year. With the help of the professionals at DSC, Adam and Becky, we charted an aggressive plan for me to fundamentally change my health and fitness even more. I set a goal to run a marathon and do that without losing the muscle mass they had helped me create that was providing me with the injury insurance in case of a fall and was also providing me with the strength to continually play with my grandsons. Well here we are a year later and they’ve done it. This morning I ran a 5k charity race and did so in a pouring rain pushing a stroller with a 20 lb grandson and after running 10k in the morning as part of my DSC workout. I did the race in 25 mins which cut 3 ½ minutes off of last years time (which I did without the morning long run and without pushing a grandson in a stroller). In addition this summer I’ve doubled my swim lengths regularly doing 2k versus last summer 1k swim workouts. All this has been accomplished while continually setting PRs in my lift amounts and my calorie burn workouts on the air dyne or the rower. Bottom line DSC WORKS! Becky and Adam are spectacular and I can’t thank them enough.
How long have you been a DSC client? March 2012-present What were your original goals when you signed up? I wanted to increase strength while maintaining basic conditioning levels and hoped to improve on the Olympic lifts. Are you satisfied with your progress on these goals? I am extremely satisfied; my numbers on every major lift (squats, deadlifts, cleans, etc.) have increased more dramatically than I had originally expected. In addition, I have gotten increasingly comfortable with the Olympic lifts. If you have met your goals, what would be new goals you would set? I’d like to keep up the strength work with an eye towards improving the conditioning piece in time. Still haven’t figured out when I’d like to begin to up the conditioning, as I’ve been extremely happy with the templates that I’ve been following. Would you recommend DSC to a friend/colleague? Without question, I would recommend DSC. In my experience working with Adam, his programming has been extremely thoughtful and flexible enough to accommodate my “down” weeks where I can’t seem to lift anything and he’s been able to work around the various disruptions to my schedule. In addition, I appreciate his application of supplemental work and “tempo” to hone in on my various weaknesses. There are fitness programs that deride and devalue these types of movements; fortunately, DSC does not. My experience with DSC has been incredibly rewarding. Prior to enrolling in DSC’s remote coaching program, my strength gains had plateaued and my technique on skill movements needed considerable work. In the year-and-a-half since working with DSC, I have achieved dramatic gains in all my lifts. Most notably, my back squat has improved by nearly 40%. The coaches are extremely thoughtful in their programming and very generous with their time, reviewing the various recordings of my lifts that I have sent them and offering constructive feedback.
I loved the community and friends that DSC built and their knowledge is second to none.
Having had some bad experiences with Crossfit, I was a little hesitant to use Becky’s distance coaching. I was definitely proven wrong. Her methods use many of the movements that are popular in Crossfit, but they are individualized to my needs and focus on using correct form. Not only am I already seeing changes in my body composition and overall physical health, I’m excited about my workouts. Not having to plan my own workouts and trusting Becky with my progress makes working out fun again!
I started training with DSC 15 months ago when my friend encouraged me to try crossfit. I was apprehensive at first due to crossfit’s intense reputation but from the first time I talked with the trainers at DSC my mind was put at ease. Thanks to great coaching and personalized programming I have been able to push myself harder than I ever thought I could and accomplish huge goals, both mentally and physically. When Adam knew I was enjoying Olympic Lifting over the crossfit style workouts, he encouraged me to pursue what I was passionate about and he took this as an opportunity to educate himself more about Olympic Lifting so I could have proper programming. I drive over an hour each way twice a week to train at DSC because of how great Adam and Becky are. They know how to push you when you need it but teach you to listen to your body when it needs a break. Most importantly they don’t just care about you the 1-2 hours you seem them each week. They care about you as a person, your wellness, and accomplishing your personal goals.
I started at 150 lbs. If the WOD called for body weight movements, I was the happiest person in the gym. My bodyweight was light enough to move like the wind, but as soon as that WOD would involve moving weight for any amount of reps, I would quickly deplete and get overtook by the much stronger competitors. Since going to the DSC Nutritional Plan I have gained over 20 lbs, and my lifts have gone up exponentially. I am by no means the strongest in the gym or the winner of all the WOD’s but I can definitely go into a WOD knowing that I am not going to crumble after 1 rep of 135!
