As we wrap up the month of June, we take a look back at the events we hosted at DSC. June is PTSD Awareness Month, and we were happy to support Team 22 Kill, a nonprofit organization aiming to “honor those who serve and to raise awareness for veteran suicide prevention.”
Our workout was centered around the unfathomable statistic that an average of 22 veterans’ lives are lost to suicide everyday.
*Buy in: 22 Push Ups (Both Partners)
22 MB Squats
22 MB Strict Press
22 MB Slams
22 Partner MB Sit Ups
200m Partner MB Run
Together, we conquered this workout hoping to make a difference in the lives of those who struggle with PTSD or TBI. Thank you to everyone who made a monetary donation and/or participated in the workout. All the proceeds go to Team 22 Kill to educate the community on the severity of PTSD as well as offer empowerment programs for veterans to integrate them back into society and help them find a purpose.
If you’d like to continue donating to Team 22 Kill, please visit their website.
To close out the month of June, we hosted our second annual Summer Open. We had a phenomenal turnout this year, with athletes coming from all over the Dayton/Cincinnati area, and one as far as Tennessee! Everyone came to compete, and we saw plenty of PRs (personal records) broken.
Our winners were decided based on Sinclair score (A coefficient is calculated, based on the athlete’s body weight, then the lifter’s Snatch and Clean & Jerk total is multiplied by the coefficient to obtain the Sinclair score.).
Women’s Top 3 Lifters
The females that took the podium:
Chelsea McCarty – CrossFit Continuity
Melissa Woody – Dayton Barbell Club
Tamara Scull – CrossFit The Tracks
for the full women’s session results.
Men’s Top 3 Lifters
The men that took the podium:
Adam Rogers – Training Think Tank and Dayton Barbell Club
Garrett Alcorn – athlete under Eric Van Matre
Logan Conkey – Dayton Barbell Club
for the full men’s session results.
One thing we love about our community here at DSC is that we had many athletes participate from different gyms, but that didn’t stop us from cheering when they hit a lift or a PR! We build each other up and make them feel like a part of our family.
A HUGE thank you to our sponsors US Cryotherapy, Dr. Lewis from Active Life Chiropractic, Train By Fire, Formula O2, and Peak Performance Massage for either setting up a booth at the open or donating to our prize pack!
Stay tuned for more information on our 2016 Winter Open coming up this December.
