Event Wrap-Up: May 2016

 In Event
May was an extremely exciting month as we hosted our first WOD-About-A-5k. Now, this wasn’t your average 5k. We threw everyone a curve ball by adding in four workout stations along the 3.1 mile route; something they probably have never done before. Barbells, kettlebells, dumbbells, and medicine balls were all in the mix. Despite the weather, we had a great turn out from participants and vendors. Xcel Sports Medicine was on site to prep all the participants with taping, stretching, and MFR, and Fat Bombs Nutrition was giving away samples of their delicious cookie treats!
Everyone seemed to be challenged, but yet enjoyed having their fitness be put to the test. Especially that last station – that was a doozy: 50 wall balls and 50 no push up burpees! Shew! The only good thing about that was having to only run about .5 miles to the finish line!
Thanks to our sponsors, Runners Plus, Formula O2, Fat Bombs Nutrition, Train By Fire, and The Vitamin Shoppe, for ensuring our winners of the both the run and workout took home some awesome prizes.
Our victors were:
Hope Arthur- Female Run
Curt Pederson- Male Run
Kara Peterson- Female Workout
Brad Lowry – Male Workout
Memorial Day Murph was our last event as we wrap up the month. This workout is in honor of Navy Seal Lt. Michael P. Murphy. As the officer-in-charge of their IMG_9022mission in Afghanistan, he unhesitatingly sacrificed his life for his team. Surrounded by the Taliban, Murphy left cover to transmit a call requesting immediate support for his team. Suffering from gun shot wounds, he made it back to his team to finish the fight. He was able to help one member of his team escape.  Lt. Michael Murphy was awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor.
This hit home for a lot of our members as we have lost or know someone who has lost a loved one while fighting for our freedom.
The workout, as written (from CrossFit.com):
1 mile run
100 pull ups
200 push ups
300 air squats
1 mile run
*with a 20 lb weight vest for RX
*scaled appropriately for your fitness level
We tackled this long and grueling workout together, not leaving anyone to finish alone. Thank you to all who’ve given the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom and thank you to all who came out to participate and honor the fallen.
